Our client is an established North American company in the computer hardware manufacturing space with multiple business divisions and an expanding sales organization. As part of its continued growth, the company is seeking a senior sales professional to drive public sector business development in the Arizona market and across the broader western region.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned seller who understands how to navigate government purchasing environments and sell physical hardware solutions into the public sector. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of public sector sales experience, government contract knowledge, and hardware sales expertise.
Although the title is Sales Manager, this is an individual contributor role rather than a people-management position. The person in this seat will be responsible for owning strategic accounts, developing new business, and expanding revenue across public sector channels.
Position Summary
The Sales Manager will focus on selling physical hardware solutions into the public sector, including through cooperative purchasing vehicles, government contracts, and other established procurement channels. This individual will be expected to understand the nuances of public sector selling and step into the role with enough experience to ramp quickly and operate with minimal training on contract structure and purchasing processes.
This role is best suited for a senior sales professional who has successfully sold hardware into government and public sector accounts and who understands how to build credibility with stakeholders in a complex, longer-cycle environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive new business and revenue growth within public sector accounts across Arizona and the broader western territory
- Sell hardware solutions into public sector organizations through established contract vehicles and procurement channels
- Manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and account development through proposal, contract alignment, and close
- Build and grow relationships with public sector buyers, procurement stakeholders, channel partners, and decision-makers
- Leverage knowledge of government purchasing processes, compliance expectations, and contract structures to move opportunities forward efficiently
- Develop strategic account plans for target public sector accounts and identify opportunities for expansion
- Position both proprietary and partner/reseller hardware solutions based on customer needs and contract fit
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams to align sales efforts, contract requirements, pricing, and product availability
- Maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and consistently advance deals through a disciplined sales process
- Provide accurate forecasting, sales updates, and market intelligence to leadership
- Stay informed on trends in public sector purchasing, competitor activity, and hardware demand within assigned markets
- Represent the company professionally in customer meetings, partner interactions, and regional business development efforts
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 to 10+ years of sales experience, with senior-level selling responsibility
- Proven success in public sector sales
- Experience selling physical hardware products, not solely software or SaaS solutions
- Strong working knowledge of government contracts and procurement vehicles such as GSA, OMNIA, and similar public sector frameworks
- Ability to step into a complex sales role and contribute with limited ramp-up on contract fundamentals
- Demonstrated success managing long sales cycles and strategic customer relationships
- Strong consultative selling, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently in an individual contributor role while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
- Willingness to work from the Phoenix area and support the assigned western territory
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in computer hardware, infrastructure, devices, or related technology product sales
- Existing public sector relationships in Arizona or across the western U.S.
- Background selling both proprietary and third-party/reseller solutions
- Experience working in a manufacturer or value-added reseller environment
- Familiarity with enterprise or multi-stakeholder public sector sales cycles
The ideal candidate is a senior, polished seller who knows how to navigate the public sector landscape and understands the difference between selling into government with software versus selling physical products through more complex procurement paths.
They are not learning public sector for the first time. They already understand contract vehicles, buying processes, and how to work opportunities through the right channels. Just as importantly, they have sold hardware, so they understand the operational and commercial realities of physical product sales.
This person is self-directed, credible with experienced buyers, and comfortable owning a territory without needing heavy day-to-day oversight. They bring the maturity, technical sales presence, and procurement fluency needed to win in a specialized role that has proven difficult to fill.
