A 90-plus-year independent distributor of overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment is hiring a Territory Sales Representative to own an underdeveloped Alabama and Mississippi territory. The Birmingham branch is healthy. The territory it serves is operating well below its potential, and leadership has flagged this market as one of the strongest growth opportunities in the company.

Compensation is uncapped and paid monthly. Year 1 on-target earnings sit at $130,000+, with long-tenured reps clearing $180,000+.

Our client is one of the longest-established names in overhead crane, hoist, and rigging distribution in the United States. They have been in business since the 1930s and hold category-leading inventory and pricing positions across every major brand in the industry.

The Birmingham branch is healthy. The territory it serves, however, has been operating well below its potential. The leadership team has flagged this market as one of the strongest growth opportunities in the company. They are investing in the right rep to capture it.

You will report directly to the Regional Sales Leader, a long-tenured industry veteran who personally onboards every new Territory Sales Representative for three to four weeks of one-on-one CRM and field training.


Service first. Equipment follows.

Roughly three-quarters of the company's revenue comes from service: OSHA-mandated annual inspections, repair quoting, maintenance agreements, and parts. You will lead with these conversations because they are the relationship.

Capital equipment sales come too. Overhead cranes, hoists, components, and rigging systems run six-figure deal sizes and longer cycles. The company's pricing position and inventory depth mean you walk into those conversations with a real advantage. New reps grow into equipment sales as their tenure and product knowledge develop.

The role is hybrid by design. You anchor your week in the office, then spend three days driving the territory and meeting customers face to face.

In Office

Pull territory dashboard in NetSuite by zip code. Identify inspections coming due, follow up on open quotes, plan the field week.

Tue – Thu
In the Field

Three to five productive customer visits per day. Lead with inspection quoting and maintenance agreement renewals. Capture cross-sell and upsell. Develop new accounts in underdeveloped zip codes.

Friday
Office or Remote

Process the week's quotes. Close customer loops. Update CRM. Plan next week's territory targets.


Built so high performers out-earn the plan.

The commission structure is uncapped and paid monthly. As the territory grows, the comp scales with it. The company has stated publicly that they are fine with reps who out-earn ownership, and the Birmingham market specifically has been called out as one that can support top-earner outcomes.

A field rep who runs their own week.

The strongest candidates bring a track record of B2B field sales in industrial environments and the discipline to manage a territory autonomously. CRM proficiency matters. So does the ability to talk inspections, mechanical repairs, and maintenance agreements credibly with plant operators and maintenance managers.

Required
  • Two or more years of B2B field sales experience with consistent tenure
  • Either overhead crane / material handling experience OR demonstrated CRM proficiency in a comparable platform
  • Comfortable spending three days per week in the field engaging customers in industrial environments
  • Lives within 60 miles of the Birmingham metro (75 miles considered for an exceptional fit)
  • Valid driver's license; able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Willing to complete OSHA-10 and customer-required safety orientations
Strongly Preferred
  • Direct overhead crane, hoist, rigging, or material handling sales experience
  • NetSuite or Oracle CRM experience
  • Service-oriented sales background: inspections, maintenance agreements, repair quoting, parts sales
  • Demonstrated new-business development through cold outreach and territory mapping
  • Solutions-based, consultative selling style versus price-led transactional selling
